COURSE OVERVIEW

A variety of viruses and bacteria and other pathogens may spread from person to person through a common series of events called the “chain of infection”.  To prevent pathogens from infecting other people, the sequence must be interrupted at any of its six links. This webinar will discuss the chain of infection within the dental setting and ways to stop germs from spreading. Mitigation strategies such as effective hand hygiene at key risk moments and cleaning and disinfecting environmental surfaces will be emphasized.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the chain of infection and links necessary for pathogens to spread from person to person.
  • Identify mitigation strategies to prevent infection transmission at links within the chain.
  • Recognize the importance of hand hygiene in the dental setting and how to choose hand soaps and hand sanitizers wisely
  • Describe the key factors to consider in cleaning and disinfecting environmental surfaces.
