Kathy B. Bassett has dedicated over 40 years to a variety of general and specialty dental environments, including over 30 years as professor of dental hygiene at Pierce College, Lakewood, WA, and 10 years as affiliate professor of oral health sciences, School of Dentistry, University of Washington, Seattle, WA. Kathy shares unique insights for successful local anesthesia to benefit both patients and clinicians, gleaned from a diverse background in dentistry, dental hygiene, and dental education. She is a co-author of Local Anesthesia for Dental Professionals and has co-authored numerous textbook chapters including in Clinical Practice of Dental Hygiene by Esther Wilkins, and Mosby’s Dental Hygiene: Concepts, Cases, and Competencies. She has also co-authored articles in Dimensions of Dental HygieneDecisions in Dentistry, and Dental Advisor. Kathy has presented hundreds of CE courses locally, nationally, and internationally on local anesthesia, restorative expanded functions, and patient assessment for myofunctional and sleep-related breathing disorders. As a lifelong learner, Kathy holds advanced training certificates in orofacial myofunctional therapy, dental sleep medicine for dental hygienists, and the Buteyko breathing method. Kathy’s work has been recognized by the Washington Association of Vocational Administrators – Outstanding Educator Award, the WDHA Educator of the Year Award, and the WDHA Martha Fales Award for contributions to the dental hygiene profession.
